U.S. News & World Report Real Estate just announced its “Best Places to Retire in the U.S. in 2021-2022.
They studied the 150 largest metropolitan areas and how each meets American’s retirement needs and expectations. They looked at happiness, housing affordability, tax rates, and access to health care, and more.
We were not surprised to see that Asheville was ranked 14 out of 150. Our only surprise was that Asheville was not ranked higher.
Our small mountain city framed in art-deco architecture in some circles is known as “Paris of the South.” We won the title of “Beer City USA” for several years and that nickname has also stuck with us. (We still have more breweries per capita than any other U.S. city.)
Our culture is much like Austin Texas used to be and wish still was. We have a little Nashville in our blood, and with the Biltmore Estate, a little of France’s Loire Valley. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs through the city and its tourism helps support an incredible “Foodie” culture.
We are blessed with Goldilocks weather; not too hot, not to cold, just right. There are enough exceptional hikes, waterfalls to visit, art studios to tour, zip lines to zip, white water rafting adventures, restaurants to explore….to last every day of the year.
We love it here!!!
